Gluten free dining in Dubrovnik, Hvar and Split.

I loved Croatia - the sunny beaches, beautiful architecture and stunning weather. Finding gluten free food is becoming easier to find in bigger cities like Dubrovnik even creating space in supermarkets.

I visited Dubrovnik, Hvar and Split finding similar types of gluten free food in each location.

The easiest thing when I couldn't find an option was a burger-less bun or risotto! Italian food is everywhere in Croatia and a super familiar option for most people. If you like seafood definitely give it a try in the costal areas.

Dubrovnik

This location was the first I visited and was surprisingly really easy to find decent gluten free food. The supermarkets were stocked with most of the alternatives we find here (Schär, brailla and more), so if you have an Airbnb would really recommend cooking for some meals.

1. Pizzeria Castro

Italian food in Old Town.

Who doesn't love pizza? Especially on holiday. This is a short distance from the famous 'shame stairs (GOT fans will know)'. They don't publicise the gluten free bases well so you will have to ask for more information to get a full menu, but nearly everything is customisable to your requirements (including a cheese free pizza for you dairy free folks).

2. Chihuahua

Mexican food

Did somebody say Tacos? Again one of my go-to cuisines as they are usually open to customise whatever you prefer. All their Taco's are corn shells with a plethora of friendly starters.

Hvar

1. Fig Hvar

Breakfast near the ferry dock and town.

Hvar is a small but beautiful town so their options are slightly limited when it comes to gluten free. The supermarkets have less alternatives and more naturally gluten free items. One option I went everyday for breakfast was Fig Hvar they were very accommodating and happy to swap out options at no extra cost. I swapped my bread for some crispy bacon - no regrets!

Split

Like Hvar, Split is also a small town with limited gluten free options for dining and it behind other areas such as Dubrovnik. Again I would recommend an Airbnb and cook as much as you can. If not there are always plenty of coastal restaurants that are happy to switch out ingredients.

1. To Je Taco

Did somebody say nachos?

No words are needed to describe this - very filling and a friendly staff! This is tucked in an ally so took some finding but was worth it. It is slightly pricey and they only accept cash so keep that in mind but you will be full for hours.

2. Gelateria Spalato

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream

When we went in early September the weather was still in the late 20's giving plenty of sunshine and little rain making it the perfect weather for ice-cream. With a lot of options to choose from you can always get the classics in a cup, but if you want a gluten free cone definitely give this place a visit.

Depending on where you visit, you'll always find options.. It is slightly more limited in certain areas but just make sure to do your research.

Enjoy your trip!
